Incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock (D) will win Georgia's Senate runoff, CNN projects, defeating Trump-backed Republican candidate Herschel Walker in Georgia's Senate runoff.

Warnock's win allows Democrats to expand their control of the Senate to 51 seats against Republicans' 49 seats, allowing the party to have majority control over committees, judicial nominations, and more.

Tuesday's runoff came after neither Warnock nor Walker received 50% of the vote in the November 8 general midterm election, as per state law. Although Warnock didn't receive the majority of the votes in the general election, the incumbent secured 49.4 percent of the vote, beating Walker’s 48.5 percent.

In 2021, Warnock defeated Kelly Loeffler in a runoff for his current Senate seat. The win gave Democrats 50 seats and control — with Vice President Kamala Harris acting as the tie-breaker — and made Warnock the first Black senator from Georgia. Unlike in 2021, no new voters could register between the general election and the runoff.
