Former Vice President Kamala Harris told Keke Palmer she hasn't decided whether she'll run for president again in 2028, while emphasizing the importance of the upcoming midterm elections.
During a Tuesday (October 13) appearance on Palmer’s Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast, Palmer asked Harris directly about her presidential ambitions.
“Before I really let you out of here, are you ready for presidency?” Palmer asked.
“Oh, girl, come on,” Harris responded, but Palmer continued pressing her for an answer, saying, “You know the people want to know.”
When Palmer asked whether the public would get another opportunity to see Harris run, the former vice president replied, “I haven’t decided. I haven’t decided yet. I will. I promise you.”
Harris then shifted the conversation to the upcoming midterms, emphasizing that Democrats need to focus on the November elections before looking ahead to the next presidential race.
“But the midterms, the midterms, the midterms,” Harris said. “’28 doesn’t matter if we don’t do ’26 right.”
Harris has been campaigning for Democratic candidates ahead of the midterms, including Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
The Associated Press reported in September that her campaign appearances could help shape her standing among potential 2028 Democratic presidential contenders, as some party members have urged new leadership while others have defended her right to consider another run.
The Hill reported Tuesday that Harris is leading early polling among potential Democratic presidential candidates for 2028.
A Focaldata/Financial Times poll of 2,553 U.S. adults conducted October 2-5 found that 30% of respondents selected Harris as their preferred Democratic nominee, followed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom with 15%.
